ABSTRACT
Here’s a tale for you, my good gentlemen, one that’s been told over andover. Once upon a time there was a husband whose wife gave birth tonothing but girls. The husband was very upset because he wanted a boy. So when his wife was pregnant again, he said to her, “If you have another girl, I’ll have her killed.” This made the poor woman terribly anxious, but she did give birth to another girl. Fearing what her husband would do, she said to the midwife, “You take the creature yourself and do whatever you want with her.”
