ABSTRACT

This chapter is an analysis of variation in political speeches delivered by Muammar Al Gaddafi. As in chapters three and four, the first part is a description of linguistic features from the phonology (P), morphophonology (MPP), syntax (S) and lexicon (L), to determine the formal language levels used by Gaddafi. The second part of the chapter will relate language form to language function, and discuss the predictability of this relationship.
