ABSTRACT
Mulagandhakuti Vihiira in Siirniith commemorates Buddha Siikyamuni's first teachings, "the turning of the wheel of Dharma." When we first visited this exquisite temple, we each had a similar experience. As residents of Hawai'i, we were astonished to see a marble plaque to the right of the door that read:
Mulagandhakuti Vihara erected by The Anagarika Dharmapala
Founder and General Secretary of The Maha Bodhi Society
on the site where Our Lord Buddha
promulgated the teachings 2500 years ago.
