chapter  13

This study has been concerned with the particular rather than the general. Specific aspects of the relationship between capital and labour have been dealt with in succession; much empirical detail has been included in order to present a concrete impression of South African society. In conclusion this approach needs to be reversed. The final task is to gain an understanding of the subject-matter as a whole. The processes that have been described must be abstracted from the level of conflicting events precisely in order to make them visible as processes and not as a series of incidents.
