ABSTRACT

Fromthetable,itisalsoclearthatthegeneralvolumeof Bahrain'stradebegantorisegraduallyimmediatelyaftertheFirst WorldWarand,in1917-18,itrosetoabout£2,424,992,4.9%upon thepreviousyearandthenincreasedby10%thefollowingyear.We alsonoticethatthelargestincreaseoccurredin1922-23whenthe figuresfortheyearroseto£3,315,160,apercentageincreaseof 65.4%onthepreviousyear.Thisisundoubtedlyanabnormalrate andwejustifyit,aswementioned,withthetransferofthetradeof KuwaitandtheArabianPeninsulatoBahrain.From1929-30,these figuresbeganagradualdeclineespeciallyatthebeginningofthe thirties.Webelievethisdeclinetobeduetovariousreasons includingthecrisisoftheslumpinthepearlmarketandtheworld economiccrisis.
