SASSANIDDIRHAMSATTHEDAWNOFISLAM BeforeIslamtheArabsusedSassanid,RomanandHimyaricoinage, andtherewasnothinginIslamforbiddingthem,andtheywere admissiblethroughoutthetimeoftheProphetandthatofAbiiBakr
~-~adiqand'Umar.During'Umar'stimedinarsoftheByzantine emperorsandsilverdirhamswereusedintheeasternregions, especiallyinIranandIraq.Asaresultofthetransformationthat overtooktheArabianpeninsulawiththecomingofthelightofIslam therewasanincreaseincommercialactivity,andgreatquantitiesof coinagewerebroughtintotheArabcountriesthatwasnegotiable amongthem,beitthegoldcoinagethatcamefromSyria-the Byzantineimperialdinars-orthesilverdirhamsoftheSassanid Persians.
