TheMuslimsprayedthenoonprayerpriortocommencing battle.AlJaroodBinAlMu'allaandSuwarBinHumam,commanders ofthefirstandseconddivisionswereslaininfirstaction.However, thesupremecommander,AlKhulaid,maintainedcontroloverthe battle,whichwasnotconclusive,anddidnotresultinthe anticipatedvictory.TheMuslimselectedtoretreattotheirfleet,only todiscoverthattheirshipswereburntbythePersians.TheMuslim armysetinflighttoBasrahtojoinotherMuslimsthere.Theywere, however,chasedandcutoffbythePersiancommanderSherek.They campedinwaittoavoidengagingtheenemy.Onhearingthenews, theCaliphOmarIbnAlKhattabwasextremelyangeredatAlAl'aAl Hadrami'sactionandattheoutcomeofevents.HewrotetoAl HadramidismissinghimfromthegovernorshipofBahrainandgiving himanonerousorder,thatistotakewhatarmyhehadleftandjoin Sa'adIbnAbiWaggas.AlHadramiobeyedOmar'sorder.
