ABSTRACT

Health care in the Kingdom has witnessed impressive improvements and progress as shown by several and varied health indicators. By 1987, 93 per cent of the population were covered by health services. Wholesome drinking water and sanitary services were available to 93 per cent and 86 per cent of the population respectively in 1983. Immunization of infants and children against infectious diseases attained a high coverage by 1987 - 89 per cent, 89 per cent, 77 per cent and 93 per cent received DPT, Polio, Measles and BCG vaccines respectively. There has been an overall decrease in the incidence of communicable diseases. There is a reduction in infant mortality and an increase in life expectancy at birth due to high socio-economic development and better health care.
