ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate an aspect of succession that has received little attention in the past but that has become in practice one of the the most prevalent forms of succession on the international level. In order to understand the concept of ‘succession between international organizations’ it was necessary first of all to examine the meaning of ‘succession’ as it has evolved in municipal law and international law. The conclusion reached was that whatever form it takes succession is characterized by the transfer of certain rights and obligations from one natural or artificial person to another. There occurs at once a continuity of rights and obligations and a discontinuity of the subject of those rights and obligations.
