ABSTRACT

During the last quarter century Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau have been amongst the most dynamic economic entities in the world. Taiwan and Hong Kong, along with South Korea and Singapore have become known as the ‘four little dragons’ of Eastern Asia. Macau has not been included within this select grouping presumably because of its small size. Economic growth, however, has brought with it geographical and political problems which will plague Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau for many years to come. In this chapter we shall look at each of these polities separately and try to analyse the changes which they have been experiencing since the 1960s.
