ABSTRACT

The cauldron of discontent bubbled on, not only in Nagaland, but throughout India's northeastern regions. In Mizoram, Manipur, and in several areas of Assam, rebellion was in the air. It was, however, in Nagaland that India found pacification particularly elusive. Buttressed by Indira Gandhi's refusal to deal with the federal g~vernment and Phizo's rejection of all moves to lure him back from Britain the situation was as friable as ever.
