A. Postmodernism The rhetorical constructions of postmodernism have found quite a place in recent general understanding of cultural life,2 of that of Japan in general,3 and to some extent that of recent Japanese art.4 There have also been attempts beyond Euramerica to see in what discourses various conceptions of postmodernism might construct meaning in recent Asian art.5
