ABSTRACT

The Organization of Islamic Conferences today stands as the prime institution for promoting Islamic transformation among Muslim countries in the areas of economic and political cooperation. The aims and goals of OIC are nobly stated (OIC 1995): The objectives of OIC are to strengthen, (1) Islamic solidarity among member states; (2) cooperation in political, economic, social, cultural and scientific fields; (3) the struggle of all Muslim people to safeguard their dignity, independence and national rights. The OIC also aims at coordinating ways and means toward safeguarding the Islamic Holy Places; support the struggle of the Palestinian people and assist them in recovering their rights and liberating their occupied territories. OIC also aims at eliminating racial discrimination and all forms of colonialism; and to create a favourable atmosphere for the promotion of cooperation and understanding between Member States and other countries.
