ABSTRACT

Up until 1982 the Project had primarily regarded its goats and sheep as meat animals, which is how they were nonnally regarded in Oman, but from mid1982 we began to explore their potential as producers of milk for sale. Thus a specialist was appointed in 1983 for this work (Ch. 4.3) and, in 1985, consideration was given to importing a British Saanen male to breed with the Anglo-Nubian and local crosses in order to increase milk yield. Experience in India (letter from Mrs Patricia Sawyer, 1985) suggested that the results would be good, but in practice we did not follow through.
