ABSTRACT
Discusses the historical and cultural information, authorities and the National Information Network on the Maldives. Archaeological finds indicate that people have been living on these islands since 3000 B.C. In the first millennium A.D. Buddhism was the prevalent religion, but no remains have been uncovered. In A.D. 1153 Islam was introduced on the Maldives. A few archaeological excavations have been carried out. [dy]
