ABSTRACT

Cambodia; archaeology; cultural heritage; Cambodians; archaeologists

Interview with four Cambodian archaeologists studying at the University of Hawaii (Bong Sovath, Chan To, Chheang Serei Vuthy, and Tea Van). They emphasize the importance of community education and public stewardship of cultural resources to successfully manage Cambodia’s cultural heritage. Motivated by nationalist and cultural pride, they have a strong desire to reinterpret their history which has been subjected to colonial interpretations and the destructive forces of civil war. [mk]
