A Japanese Seaweed containing a Carbohydrate called Glose, which is a powerful gelatinizing agent.

Botanical names: Plocaria lichenoides, Gelidium amansii (Kutz), Gracilaria lichenoides. Natural order: Algae, Ceramiaceae. Other names: Japanese isinglass, Ceylon moss, Agal Agal. Chinese name: Hai-ts'ai. Part used: Herb. Natural habitat: Japan, Ceylon, Macassar, Indian Ocean, Shores of Malay Peninsula. Constituents: A carbohydrate called glose. Hydrochloric, acetic and oxalic acids prevent agar-agar from

gelatinizing. Action: Nutritive.
