ABSTRACT

OFFICIAL ADEN WAS very kind to me. Aerial photographs of the country I should be likely to traverse came my way; Captain Malcolm Sinclair allowed me to pore over the extensive reports of the Ingram's journey into the interior of the Hadhramaut on a semi-official expedition, two years previously; I was given the use of the best maps. In fact, I should like to place it on the tablets of gratitude that, contrary to the general opinion about brass hats and uniformed officialdom, there was never any reluctance shown to assist and help me in every possible way. Residents at Aden may be the exception that proves the rule, but they were a disarming exception and a charming lot of people.
