ABSTRACT

Flowers decorate the room and food is set out before the miniature altar found in every Buddhist home. The food consists of dishes favored by the ancestral spirits when living. Even the children feel no skepticism, and speak naturally to the invisible audience. After visiting for three days a suitable lunch is provided for the spirits to eat on the journey back; farewells are said, and warm invitations issued for a visit the following year. Along the streets on this night torches light the way for the departing visitors.
