ABSTRACT

For pure clear reflections in the water one must look at the small lakes of Japan. These lakes are the source of many streams and waterfalls. Nature has doubled her already generous supply of natural beauty by placing these perfect mirrors up in the mountain ranges in great number. Most of them are of volcanic origin, and the Japanese see in their round forms and luminous surfaces a suggestion of the polished bronze mirrors once used in every home. Five lakes are distributed around the base of Fuji, as if in answer to the painters' quest for inverted views of that great mountain.
