ABSTRACT
SPORT is one of the many new words the Japanese language has taken on in the past fifty years. So different is the present from the past that the Japanese have found it more convenient to use the Western term for imported games and activities. The great difference between the old and the new, not only with the Japanese but with us as well, is in the greater degree of action, and the increased number of participants in modern sports.
