ABSTRACT

The annual wrestling tournaments in Tokyo draw all of the best professionals, and their standing for the year is determined by the results. With a high ranking they can draw larger crowds and earn more money when they tour the smaller cities throughout the year. Throngs attend the ten-day contests which take place in January and May, and many others listen to the daily broadcasts of the results. Wrestling is the only old sport which draws great crowds. Picturesque wrestling amphitheaters are made to accommodate thousands. The ring is slightly raised and covered with a roof supported by four slender posts.
