ABSTRACT
Feudal castles such as Kerak were intended to take in a great quantity of people, as we have seen, for an indefinite time, a fact that accounts for their enormous size. One of the chief necessities of life at such a time was an adequate provision of water, and we find that the Crusaders made four large reservoirs and any amount of cisterns to that end.
