ABSTRACT
These biographical details and the secret of his call to poetry are given to us by Prudentius in the Preface to his Poems, pUblished by himself in the year 405. An advocate, a high official, perhaps even a comes primi ordinis, he felt the need of making amends for the sins of his life, and for his tardy poetical efforts he predicated the merit of repentance and expiation.
