ABSTRACT

In a great marquee of red and white striped bunt~ ing a celebration was being held, a celebration at which speeches were being made by men clothed in the coat and trousers of the West. All of the utiliarian ugli~ ness of the strange mixture of present~day Japan was being aired under the wind~swayed canopy that pro~ tected these men and their ill~fitting garments from the soft caress of mountain mists.
