ABSTRACT
Those who were Christians and accepted the Creed of Niccea, but became either Nestorians or Eutychians, he punished with deposition, excommunication and, occasionally, with banishment. Such, for. example, was the sentence upon Anthimus, Patriarch of Constantinople, 535-t6: when, in confirmation of his condemnation for Eutychianism by the Council of Constantinople, 2nd May--4th June, 536, the Emperor, 6th August, ordered his banishment from the city.l
There were heretics, however, who went further astray; and either repUdiated the Creed of Nicrea as did the Arians; or, like Manichreans, Gnostics and Montanists, adopted errors savouring of heathenism.
