The foll owing are the chief terms expressing family relationship. When written after a pe rsona l name, th e word no is to be inserted in reading(;t x: nanigash.i no chichi , 'father of So-and-so). Those for female relatives, unless included in a gen eral term, are uniformly set within parenthesis and for this purpose a cha rac ter or a reading set by it self within 'round brackets' is to be substituted for the one immediately preceding. Square bracket s, as usual, enclose optional additions.
