ABSTRACT

As to Vitiated A.ir.-The normal amount of carbonic acid in the open air varies from 0'02 to '07 per cent., and it is by common consent represented at from '03 to '04 per cent. Yet can we fix upon that as a hard and fast dividing line, when in Manchester it has been proved to be '0679 in a fog, and at Munich and Chamounix '05 and '063 per cent. ordinarily? Angus Smith found it to be nearly ten times the normal standard, viz., -3 and -32 per cent., in various workshops and in the worst part of theatres occupied by men and women, so that we may fairly extend our range to some point between '06 and '3 per cent. This is a very long range; and if we adopt the mean, it would still be very much above the standard of '04 per cent.
