ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a letter that particularly focuses on the two voyages to the River Sierra Leone. The directors of Sierra Leone Company have acted so honorable and handsome as it was not possible to hold out in refusing to return to Sierra Leone, besides increasing Falconbridge's salary near three times what it was. Mr. Thornton, one of the worthiest men, where he as well as many others of the directors made a profusion of friendly promises and professions, so extravagant that if came from any other set of men, either as chicanery/without meaning. A few days ago, the author hinted an inclination to visit his friends at Bristol, before they left England, and Mr. Thornton said he should have a Chaise when he liked, and the expense should be defrayed by the company.
