Introduction

Suburbs replaced the inner city as the purported location of 'noncommunity'. This, like the earlier judgements on the inner city was more an ideological response than one based on sociological analysis. There are now several community studies that have taken suburbia as their locale and so there can be no excuse for the crudities of the 'suburban myth'.
