ABSTRACT

A. GENERAL 589. Tanks in the defense form a strong fire force and, as suitable, attack weapons, destroy attacking enemy by fire from stationary positions and conduct counterattacks against the forces penetrating into the depth of the main defensive zone. 590. As a rule, tanks are used in the defense in combined arms formations, though in some cases, separately. 591. When used in a combined arms formation the tank brigade (regiment) is not assigned an independent defensive sector, as a rule, but is employed: - as a tank reserve to counterattack against an enemy who has

broken through into the depth of the main defensive zone; - to reinforce the infantry; in doing so, part of the tanks are used

as tank fire emplacements and mobile tanks as well as reserves. It is unsuitable to assign tanks to combat security.
