ABSTRACT

The year of the city's unification, 1967, gave birth to a renewed and reinvigorated consciousness among Jerusalem's artists. Two artistic groups arose, one after the other: between 1968 and 1969 there was the 'Mashkof' group, whose main concern was to give momentum to the slumbering cultural life of the city's artists (painters, authors, composers, etc.) and art centres. Beside David Ben-Shaul, there were veterans like Zvi Talkowski and Ivan Schwebel, and younger artists like Yitzhak Gaon, Michael Gitlin and Shaul Schaltz.
