ABSTRACT
The night of 22/23 April marks an important stage in the development of the battle, when both sides found themselves obliged to reappraise the measures required to deal with the situation. The Soviets had had their first experience of what the next phase of the operation would entail and needed to reorganize their forces accordingly. Belatedly the Germans had to adapt to the implications of a siege.
