ABSTRACT

A Red Army assembled in Poland turned to the south against an enemy force that had penetrated between the Vistula and the Bug Rivers. To defend against an attack from the north, only the following fortress garrisons were left behind:

Warsaw: 18 infantry battalions, 5 foot artillery battalions, 6 mobile sortie batteries

Zegrze: 8 infantry battalions, 1 foot artillery battalion, 4 mobile sortie batteries

Pultusk: 4 infantry battalions, half a battalion of foot artillery Rozan: 4 infantry battalions, half a battalion of foot artillery Ostrolenka: 75th Reserve Division (16 infantry battalions, 1 cavalry

squadron, 6 batteries (48 guns)) Lomza and Nowogrod: 58th Reserve Division.
