ABSTRACT

By independence, the Anglican Church had won over a million adherents and built up a network of organizations, groups and associations to provide a wide range of vital educational, health and economically oriented services throughout the better part of Kenya. The combination of its spiritual authority, extensive infrastructure and various social services would, over the next several decades, give it a reach and power unmatched by any social or religious body other than the Catholic Church.
