ABSTRACT
The last three chapters have traced the Church's gradual divergence from the government line in its major fields of social action: education, health care and economic development. This chapter looks more closely at the second part of the Kenyatta period, the 1970s, when the Church began to speak out publicly on the social and economic issues of the day and to take a more critical - though still restrained - position on the abuses of the political process.
