ABSTRACT
During the Kenyatta years, the Church deepened its already strong roots in Kenyan society. With consummate adroitness, it carved out new avenues of operation for itself as the government nationalized health care and education, tightened control over economic development and strangled political processes. In tandem, carefully avoiding conflict with the ruling authorities, it used its power to act as a mediative link between the society and the ruling institutions.
