ABSTRACT
Much of sport sociology centres on two themes: sport is an expression of the societal and cultural system in which it occurs and sports mirror the rituals and values of the societies in which they are developed. Feminist scholars suggest two additional themes: sport 'perpetuates patriarchal ideology by making men's power over women seem "natural"" and images of women in sport reinforce traditional stereotypical images of femininity and gender roles.2
