ABSTRACT

A contemporary of Clausewitz, Swiss-born General Baron Antoine Henri de Jomini, in The Art of War (1830), divided the total military endeavor into strategy, grand tactics (to day's operations), logistics, engineering, small-unit tactics and diplomacy. To these the ensuing history forces us to add the dimension of science. This helps explain where and how science fits into societal conflicts, enabling us to peer into the different disciplines of research that have accelerated the severity of armed clashes and terrorism.
