ABSTRACT

To write a book is one thing, to criticize it another. For an author to criticize his own book is almost unheard of and may seem hubristic;l however, in view of the central place which The Transformation of War now occupies in the strategic debate, it is a task that cannot be avoided. In terms of world history, the ten years that have passed since the book first saw the light of day have been enormously eventful. In terms of military and strategic theory, those same ten years have witnessed a vast number of interesting contributions made by an equally vast number of capable people.
