ABSTRACT

Located in the crossroads of civilizations and in one of the most strategic regions of the world, the fate of Cyprus has been affected by the actions of the power that dominated the Eastern Mediterranean. Because of its rich history and important strategic location, Cyprus has also been the object of study by a wide range of authors.! Studies ranging from literature to archaeology, from ecology to strategy, and most recently nationalism and ethnic conflict provide an unusually lengthy bibliography for a small country. This chapter will focus primarily on the post-Second World War international dimensions of the Cyprus problem and on the impact of international politics on the evolution of the Cyprus problem.
