ABSTRACT

This book has explored the role ofnew technologies in the renewal ofhigher education. We looked first at the challenges ofthe changing environment in which universities operate. Taking advantage of technology to develop elements of distance education will be one response to those pressures for many institutions. After describing the essentials of distance education we examined the nature of competitive advantage for universities and asked what would make new learning technologies attractive to students. The previous chapter reviewed current experience of the knowledge media against that background.
