ABSTRACT

No more lively or entertaining critique of the scientific method has been provided than that offered by Feyerabend in his Against Method,1 which might well have been called Against Received Opinion. Feyerabend hopes that a perusal of this work will show us that there is no such thing as scientific method. Science, it is argued, is just one tradition among many. It is privileged neither in terms of methods nor in terms of results; and in view of this we ought to remove science from its pedestal and strive to create a society in which all traditions have equal access to power and education. Among the traditions which Feyerabend wishes to see benefit from this equal access are astrology, witchcraft and traditional medicine.
