ABSTRACT

In spite of all the promises, manifestos, utopian and progressive rhetoric, it has not been a benign century. On the contrary, some of the worst excesses have been committed systematically against millions of the human race and, morally and spiritually, we seem more lost than ever. Rationalism has led, too often, to a frightening reductionism and positivism to a poverty of spirit where all the problems have been relegated to the ragged edges of consciousness, while progressivism in education often unwittingly created a powerless narcissism of the self.
