ABSTRACT

The book deals with the remarks and interpretations of education, training and learning in the everyday lives of people in a swiftly changing society with expanding education and learning opportunities. For Eric Hobsbawm (1994), the case of postwar Finland represents a 'spectacular' change comparable with the case of Japan. For Georges Gurvitch (1972), the cognitive systems of Finnish society is an example of a 'decentralized, pluralist and collective' cognitive system emphasizing the balance between humanism and technology.
