ABSTRACT

Teachers constitute a core group of those who make schooling what it is. Teachers are the final arbiters of what is taught in classrooms, how it is taught and what actions and interactions can legitimately occur. We studied the teachers at Five Bridges, examining them against a backdrop of knowledge about teachers in schools throughout the United States. If we examine the research on teachers in American schools similar to Five Bridges, what attitudes and behaviors might we expect of a 'typical' faculty of teachers? How typical were the Five Bridges teachers?
