ABSTRACT

State University. Only when Colorado State had the complete system in place, did the Interlibrary Loan department begin to grasp some previously unforeseen potential

Those of us who have logged onto a mainframe and seen nothing but a "$" prompt and wondered "well, what now?" know that menu driven systems and graphical interfaces today have changed information access. Access to many types of services, previously limited to experienced staff, is now common for library users. At the time that the original "Electronic Remote Requesting Program at Colorado State University" was under development in 1990, use of computer networks was limited primarily to the academic and larger corporate environments. In the past two or three years, however, the necessary technology for networked access among a wider audience has become available. Both price and relative ease-of-use have made this accessibility appealing.
