This is not to say that you have to despise your child in order to discipline her. This would be the other extreme that would encour age overreaction as opposed to underreaction, or overdoing it as opposed to underdoing it. To have warm, loving feelings toward someone who is aggressively trying to take advantage of you makes it difficult to discourage such spiteful conduct. A more appropriate, no-nonsense, limit-setting approach is to put your love for your child on the back burner.
