Women in Business: The Experiences of Women in the U.S. Workforce

In 1866 a U.S. senator said that giving a woman the right to vote would put her "in an adversary position to men and convert all the now harmonious elements of society into a state of war, and make every home a hell on earth" (Rosenberg, 1992, p. 55). While this quote specifically provides insight into the deep concern expressed over giving women the right to vote, women have heard similar concerns voiced over the years as they have struggled to earn a legitimate role in the American workplace.
