ABSTRACT
This chapter is written primarily for helping professionals and others who work with clients of diverse backgrounds, particularly blacks or African-American families. It is hoped that, through the information presented, practitioners can better provide competent assessment and treatment services to diverse families. This chapter is focused on the integration and application of knowledge and skills in assessing and strengthening social competence in black families.
